ARMY BOYS SCHOOL BENGALURU, EMERGE AS CHAMPIONS OF THE SIXTH EDITION OF THE ADIDAS FC BAYERN YOUTH CUP INDIA NATIONALS

Bangalore, February 5, 2019: The adidas FC Bayern Youth Cup India 2018-19 came to an exhilarating end with Army Boys School, Bengaluru winning the title by beating DPS East, Bengaluru by 2-1 in a fiercely contested final.

The adidas FC Bayern Youth Cup spanned across 5 cities from end of November 2018 till January 2019, with more than 2,000 talented players showcasing their skills. Out of the 250 schools that participated in the tournament, 10 schools from - Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Kolkata and first-time participants from Jammu Kashmir secured qualification to represent their respective cities in the National Finals.

An under-16, seven-a-side, inter-school football tournament, the adidas FC Bayern Youth Cup is a dream for any young footballer as it opens a window to experience a professional footballer’s life. The winning team from the National Finals will represent ‘Team India’ in the FC Bayern Youth Cup World Finals and train under the watchful eye of professional coaches from FC Bayern Munich

Commenting on the FC Bayern Youth Cup tournament, Bixente Lizarazu said,

“It was a great weekend with the kids and a pleasure to see such skilled young talents. FC Bayern and adidas through the FC Bayern Youth Cup will go a long way in nurturing grassroots football in India and inspire the youth to take part in the sport. The FC Bayern tournament enables us to scout the top players from select countries and give them a platform that acknowledges their talent as well as enable them to participate in an international championship, further allowing them to garner experience, exposure and exchange of knowledge at a global level.”

We congratulate the National Winners – Army Boys School, Bengaluru for not only retaining their place as the defending champions but also their impeccable performance throughout the tournament finals. They shall have the honour to represent ‘Team India’ in the World Finals and we hope that they make the country proud with their performances in Munich.”
