Architecture Students Explore Healthcare Design at Grewal Eye Institute Medicity

New Chandigarh, August 5, 2026: Students of Chandigarh College of Architecture (CCA) gained first-hand exposure to modern healthcare architecture during an educational visit to Grewal Eye Institute (GEI) Medicity, New Chandigarh, on Wednesday. The visit aimed to provide practical insights into the design, planning and construction of a super-specialty hospital.
Led by CCA Principal Dr. Sangeeta Bahga, the students toured various hospital departments and learned how healthcare architecture supports clinical efficiency, patient comfort and seamless movement between functional areas.
Architect Jag Raj, who supervised the design and construction of the institute, conducted an interactive walkthrough, explaining the hospital’s design philosophy, space planning, sustainable features and technical aspects of healthcare infrastructure. He highlighted the importance of integrating medical workflow, accessibility, aesthetics and patient-centric planning in modern hospital design.
Welcoming the students, Dr. S.P.S. Grewal, Founder of Grewal Eye Institute, said designing a specialized hospital requires balancing advanced technology, operational efficiency and patient experience. He noted that such academic visits help future architects understand how thoughtful design can significantly enhance the quality of healthcare delivery.
The students also studied infrastructure planning, the use of natural light, patient-friendly layouts and architectural principles essential for creating world-class healthcare facilities.
