Architects discuss Ludhiana pollution

The Indian Institute of Architects Ludhiana Centre on Sunday organising seminar on air, water and noise pollution in Ludhiana city.

Ludhiana, February 2, 2014: The Indian Institute of Architects Ludhiana Centre organised seminar on air, water and noise pollution in Ludhiana city and suggested certain solutions.
Due to unplanned growth of city on all parameters the pollution problem is fast becoming alarming as pointed by WHO too.
The seminar was planned by H.S. Boparai, Joint Secretary, IIALC.
Rajan Tangri, Joint Secretary , welcomed all Architects from City , Chandigarh and rest of Punjab.
Sanjay Goel Chairman IIALC expressed his viewpoint about pollution and its solutions for Ludhiana.
IIA Ludhiana Centre had invited Surinder Bahga, National editor of the Journal of IIA to share his views on pollution related issues of Ludhiana city.  He explained that as per latest studies of Yale University, Indian cities are most polluted cities in the world.  Delhi and Beijing are almost comparable.   Ludhiana is stated as fourth most polluted city in the world.  Budha Nullah’s problem is still far from being solved.  Water is not worth drinking upto nearly hundred feet level.  Noise pollution has crossed all permissible limits.  He advised that there is a dire need to adopt a multi-pronged strategy before it is too late.  Introduction of Metro, saddled electric buses, banning industries from throwing their waste water into Budha Nullah, phasing out 15 year old commercial vehicles, forming revised tax policy of cars, limiting ownership of vehicles, increasing greenery are certain measures which can combat with the problem.
Presentation were also given by Bimaldeep Singh, Yogesh Singla , S.D. Singh, J.S. Kalsi.

The event was supported by Bharat Bricks. The function was attended by nearly 50 architects from Ludhiana, Jalandhar and Chandigarh.
