Kapurthala, March 1, 2014: “The human mind – right from childhood- is driven by curiosity and imitation, two of the foremost ‘core’ mind-associated drives that are required for survival in the world. Both Science and Arts are the natural consequences of these, once they are coupled with a third human capability- that of imagination! If we look around, the modern world is full of elegant and wonderful examples of the ingenuity of human beings to both comprehend and then master our environment in a sustainable and useful manner”, said Dr Girish Sahni, Director, Institute of Microbial Technology(IMTECH),Chandigarh in his lecture on the occasion of National Science Day celebrated by Pushpa Gujral Science City, Kapurthala in collaboration with Punjab State Council for Science and Technology.

While focusing his talk on the evolution of science as a fundamental philosophy, to Research and Development as highly organised activities that can yield tangible outcomes for societal development through the innovation process, Dr Sahni stated that the role of Science in today’s world cannot be overestimated since human development in all its varied aspects is tremendously dependent on  the spirit and application of science to solve human problems through myriad inventions. The role of early mentorship of children to become attracted to science, and slowly gaining confidence by committed and compassionate training to follow it as a discipline and profession is thus highly necessary for a society’s development and prosperity.
