Apeejay International School student shines at the State and National Wushu Championships

Greater Noida, September 15, 2022: Recently, Pahal Kabadwal, a Class III student at Apeejay International School, Greater Noida, participated in the State and National Wushu Championships. She secured a silver and gold medal in the Qiangshu (martial arts with spear) Group C tournament and Khelo India tournaments respectively.

This seven-year-old girl scored 6.3 points. She bagged the silver medal in the Qiangshu, Group C tournament. In Khelo India, she was the gold medallist in ‘without weapon martial arts group’.

The player in Qiangshu event has to fight using a spear. The war techniques of previous centuries are used in Wushu as a sport and discipline. There is only one round and every participant has to try to get the maximum point. If one scores less than five points, then they are disqualified. The highest one can score is ten.

Her journey to achieving this milestone began learning Wushu in December 2021. Pahal’s parents had enrolled her in the Wushu academy near her home. Eventually, she developed an interest in this form of martial arts.

Pahal at such a young age manages her studies and sports life efficiently. She is disciplined with her training regime and goes to the academy from 5 pm to 8 pm. Elaborating on her training regime she said, “I warm up and then after a water break I do running. Following which, I start with Wushu exercises as well as drills and lastly spend some time cooling down before going home. I practice for 3 hours daily. My father also joins me during the warm-up and running drills.”

She thanked the school for encouraging and supporting her when she had to visit Shimla to participate in the National Wushu Competition.
