Ludhiana, June 17, 2022: The occasion was ‘Anukama 2022’, the annual design collection show of Northern India Institute of Fashion Technology (NIIFT) Ludhiana. The Chief Guest Sibin C, Secretary cum Director Industries and Commerce Minister, Punjab has graced the occasion with Guest of Honour Geetika Singh, Director, NIIFT.  Male and female students of NIIFT, Ludhiana took the stage by storm this evening to showcase the 28 hands-on beautiful collections created by the graduating Fashion Design and Fashion Design (Knits) students. NIIFT has been declared as a centre of excellence for apparel and textile in the new industrial policy of the state government.

The highlight of Anukama’ 22 was a hand-made collection, created by Vanjul Gupta, a student of Fashion Design Knits department. The collection named 'KOLO', which was inspired by polka dots and modified its looks to a pom-pom version collection, by using hand-knitting. Knitwear as a whole has been quite inspiring as no woven fabric is used. The hand- made collection of Parul Sharma, which is inspired by hippie is made by using crocheting techniques, to give a weave look and highlighted the vintage look of boho style. Shreya Bhatia, inspired from Punjabi traditional craft Phulkari, which has been tried to revive the form of kaftans a modern look for a design solution for the NRIs.  

Sibin C, also gave away the awards to the promising students. A total of 10 awards were given to the deserving students on the basis of their performance. The awards are as follows: The Best Design Collection award of Fashion Design department went to Riya Malik, Best Commercial Collection was shared by Mahim and Sana Ali. The Most Creative Collection was given to Simranjot Kaur.   The Best Usage of Art in Design Development was given to Bhawna Mishra. The best usage of craft in Design Development was given to Pragya. The best interpretation of concept award was given to Deepti Lamba. 

The Jury special award was given to Mansi Sharma. The best design Collection from Fashion Design (Knits) department was bagged by Komal Tomar,   the Best Usage of Art in Design Collection was given to Vanjul Gupta and the most Commercial Collection was shared by Sahil and Parul Sharma. 

Sibin C, IAS, Secretary cum Director Industries and Commerce Minister, Punjab, said “The mission of NIIFT is to educate and mentor students interested in a career in fashion by imparting skill based training which is in tune with Industry requirements. This is where NIIFT plays a vital role in shaping the students' into talented designers.”

Geetika Singh, PCS, Director, NIIFT said, “Students used the platform of Anukama to present their signature style. They put in their best of work which could be seen in the collections presented.”

Er.Rakesh Kumar Kansal, Registrar, NIIFT, Ludhiana said "NIIFT is an accredited, diverse, and expanding college of Fashion, Management and Technology established in 1995 and has grown to be one of the country's premiere fashion education institutes. NIIFT has become the breeding ground for talented fashion designers and merchandisers."

"The collections comprise of eclectic ensembles painstakingly created by the students of FD and FDK over a period of 6 months under the mentorship of the faculty. The collections vary from ethnic to modern and there are also highly creative collections based on fantasized concepts and themes. Each student has individually worked on a theme and would present five ensembles each,” Dr. Poonam Aggarwal Thakur, Principal, NIIFT.

These students were guided by their Mentors- Er.Harpreet Singh, Rajwinder Kaur, Ramanpreet Kaur, Navneet Suman and Honey Sharma. An eminent jury made up of Fashion, Apparel and Textile Experts evaluated the designed collections.
Over 25 female and male models walked the ramp adding the glam quotient to the students’ creations." Said Rajwinder Kaur, Coordinator, Anukama’ 2022 & HOD, Fashion Design Department.  

It is noteworthy that NIIFT is a diverse, and expanding college of Fashion, Management and Technology established in 1995 and has grown to be one of India's premiere institutes. NIIFT is under the administrative control of the Department of Industries and Commerce, Punjab.

Admissions to the Undergraduate and Post Graduate Degree Programs are open.
