Chandigarh, April 13, 2019: Two day Annual literary festival EUNOIA was organised by the departmentof English and Cultural Studies, Panjab University, Chandigarh, in which various competitions took place.
The first event was Spell Bee competition, where Prof PushpinderSyal graced the occasion, and after conducting the prelims and three rounds subsequently, Tuba Rizvi from DAV College, Sector 10, Chandigarh won the competition. Simultaneously, the photography competition was in progress, with the jury comprising Prof BhupinderBrar, Professor Emerits, Department of political Science, PU and Prof Gopal Singh, professor of English, Post Graduate Government College, Sector 11, Chd. assessing the shortlisted photographs. ShivaniPathania from the Dept of English and Cultural Studies and JassMalout won the first and second prize respectively. It was followed by Extempore competition, judged by Prof Neena Sharma, Professor of English, MCM DAV College for Girls and Navdeep Kaur Kalsi, Research Scholar, Dept of English and Cultural Studies, PU offered a medley of creative topics. Sanya Sehgal, Shruti Sharma and Simran Kaur, from the MCM DAV College for Girls, won the first, second and third prize respectively. In the story writing competition that witnessed rousing participation was judged by a panel of six jury members- Mr Prashant Mehra (from Alanka Theatre), Ms Rashmi, Mr Gurjeet, Ms Parul, Ms Neha, Ms Seerat (JRF/SRF, Dept of English and Cultural Studies, PU). Rhea Singh, Dushyant, Anushka and Manveen won the top four prizes. The essay writing competition judged by IshitaSareen, Shubham, Navjot, was won by Shweta Miglani, Tejasvi, Ankita Gupta and Angadbir Singh for the first four positions. The department is also presenting their Annual Play Production “wrong number “ directed by Karan Gulzar on 10-12th April,2019.
Day 2- of the Annual literary festival EUNOIA was packed with another set of events. The first event for the day, was literary quiz in which four teams made up to the finale, Amritpreet and Smrity from Panjab University, Chandigarh won the competition. Simultaneously, the face painting competition was in progress, with the judges comprising of two research scholars from the department of English and Cultural Studies, Panjab University, Miss. PawanPuneet, and Miss Gurleen Kaur Cheema Research. Rhythm Sharma and ArzooShyam, from MCM DAV College and Anjali Banga, PU dept of economics won the first and second prize respectively. It was followed by Group discussion competition, judged by Prof Akshay Kumar, Professor of Department of English and Cultural Studies, PU. The topics of the same ranged from 'Securalism in the New India' to the multiple roles played by the media. The discussion kept everyone on the edge, with befitting inputs from the contestants. Sakshi from DAV college sector 10 won the first prize in GD. After that Filmmaking competition took place in English auditorium, judged by Prof SurbhiGoel, Professor of Department of English and Cultural Studies. Five films were shortlisted by judges and the films were played in the auditorium out of which judges selected two films, Kasak by Rooh from Ryat and Bahra college and Open Hand by GurbaazMaken from GGDSD college sector 32, Chandigarh won the prizes. Parallelly, the blackout poetry took place. And also students from Department of English and Cultural Studies, PU created an Artist corner and an exhibition to showcase of their art. In the evening the Department of English and cultural studies also presented their Annual Play Production “wrong number “ directed by Karan Gulzar on 12th April,2019. And with this beautiful play the LITfest of English department EUNOIA 2019 concluded on a grand and fruitful note.
