Ludhiana, November 21, 2013: Anganwari workers on Thursday gheraoed residence of the Congress MP and Union Minister Manish Tewari, on Pakhowal Rad, here, in support of their demands.
A few labour organisations also supported for their cause.
Addressing the dharna, former MLA Tarsem Jodhan alleged that the government was doing injustice to Anganwari workers. Leaders of the Anganwari workers also said the Centre was giving them “lollypop” time and again, resulting to which they were forced to agitate. They demanded that Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) schemes should be concerned into government departments, Anganwari workers and helpers be given class III and IV grade and worker be given minimum Rs.15,000 and helper Rs. 10,000. Besides they also sought the facilities of pension, gratuity, ex-gratia and PF scheme.
During the protest an ambulance got tracked in the traffic jam. Seeing this, the protestors immediately rushed and gave a clean passage to it. And then they again sat on the protest dharna. Vehicular traffic was interrupted in a bad manner due to the protest. Some of the commuters were seen arguing with the protestors.
A large number of police personnel were seen deployed infront of the Tewari’s residence.
