Ludhiana, Oct 30, 2025: To further escalate the battle against the drug menace by mobilising greater community involvement, Anandpur Sahib Member of Parliament Malwinder Singh Kang on Thursday convened a high-level meeting with administration, Village Defence Committees (VDCs) and Ward Defence Committees (WDCs) across Ludhiana district.
Joined by Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Rakesh Kumar, SDM Jasleen Kaur Bhullar, MC Assistant Commissioner Jasdev Singh Sekhon, Yudh Nashya Virudh district in-charge Balbir Chaudhary, and zonal in-charge Sukhjieet Singh Dhillon, MP Kang highlighted Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann’s two-pronged strategy: stringent police action to dismantle smuggling networks and comprehensive rehabilitation for addicts, including skill training, employment opportunities, and financial support for self-reliance.
Kang also stated that a state-wide mega event for VDCs and WDCs will be organised on November 16 in Sarabha village—marking the martyrdom day of freedom fighter Kartar Singh Sarabha—to galvanise public participation and expand the anti-drug movement. He reiterated on-going efforts through de-addiction centres and awareness drives to protect Punjab’s youth, emphasising that eradicating drugs is essential to realising the vision of a prosperous Punjab envisioned by the martyrs.
Urging unified action, the MP called on VDC and WDC members to actively support the police and district administration in rooting out the menace. “Only through collective resolve can we secure a drug-free future for our state,” he stated.
