Amit Thapar takes over as Chairman CII Punjab and Dr PJ Singh as Vice-Chairman CII Punjab

In its Annual Session for 2021-2022 in Chandigarh, CII Punjab announced Mr Amit Thapar, President, Ganga Acrowools Limited as its newly elected Chairman and Dr PJ Singh, Managing Director, Tynor Orthotics Limited as its Vice-Chairman.

Chandigarh, March 4, 2022L In its Annual Session for 2021-2022 in Chandigarh, CII Punjab announced Mr Amit Thapar, President, Ganga Acrowools Limited as its newly elected Chairman and Dr PJ Singh, Managing Director, Tynor Orthotics Limited as its Vice-Chairman.  
 
Mr Bhavdeep Sardana, Chairman, CII Punjab & Sr. Vice-President & CEO, The Sukhjit Starch & Chemicals Limited, in a ceremony, handed over the chairmanship of the State to Mr Amit Thapar, President, Ganga Acrowools Limited.  
 
Passing over the baton to the new leadership, he shared, “CII must focus on making the industry competitive in Punjab by engaging with the governments at all levels. The State has immense potential to become an industrial hub of India. This can be achieved by recognising and giving a boost to emerging young entrepreneurs that bring innovation to the fore.” 
 
Mr Amit Thapar, President, Ganga Acrowools Limited & Chairman, CII Punjab thanked Mr Sardana and CII members for having faith in his vision to lead Punjab.  

He gave a presentation on ‘Punjab’s Economy – Through Covid and the Way Forward’, which laid stress on making Punjab’s Industry competitive with continued engagement with the upcoming new government and working closely on both Cost/Ease of Doing Business reforms. He hoped that the hard work done by Invest Punjab would continue to yield results in the coming years.  
 
The industry accounts for 36% Punjab’s employment, which is even higher than agriculture, and MSMEs have a huge role to play. Led by Bhavdeep, ease of doing business have been the top priority areas for CII, and I shall be picking up the threads for long-term policy changes to make Punjab a leading state for an encouraging business environment, ” he said. 
 
Dr PJ Singh, Managing Director, Tynor Orthotics, was elected as the Vice-Chairman for CII Punjab.  
 
Emphasizing on the importance of education, he said, “Research and Development (RnD) and academia, when combined together, are like a steroid that has the ability to boost the economy and take the industry forward. It is imperative that we focus on skilling and education together to take Punjab’s Industry at par with the global competition.”  
 
Alongside the State Annual Meeting, a thought-provoking Session on the theme ‘India@75: Competitive & Inclusive Punjab’ was presided over by Mr Rajat Agarwal, CEO, Invest Punjab as the Chief Guest.  
 
Speaking on the resilience of Punjab’s industry, Mr Rajat Agarwal, CEO, Invest Punjab said, “If you were to pick up any report from WEF, RBI, Moodys, etc. India’s macroeconomic parameters are very strong. Despite being a landlocked state, Punjab’s entrepreneurial spirit along with its excellent infrastructure are key enablers for its industry to compete at the global stage.  
 
“The government’s fiscals may not allow us to give a direct capital subsidy, but we are open to suggestions and can also offer non-fiscal incentives to make Punjab’s industry competitive”, he added.
