National BJP leader Sukhminderpal Singh Grewal Bhukhri Kalan has expressed deep respect, heartfelt appreciation and sincere gratitude to Union Home Minister Amit Shah and the Ministry of Home Affairs for taking a wise, balanced and nationally responsible decision by rejecting the demand of the Haryana Government for a new Assembly building in Chandigarh.
Chandigarh, December 3, 2025: National BJP leader Sukhminderpal Singh Grewal Bhukhri Kalan has expressed deep respect, heartfelt appreciation and sincere gratitude to Union Home Minister Amit Shah and the Ministry of Home Affairs for taking a wise, balanced and nationally responsible decision by rejecting the demand of the Haryana Government for a new Assembly building in Chandigarh.
Grewal wrote on his social media account X that this decision of the Government of India, under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, reflects a profound understanding of the sensitive, historical, legal and emotional importance of Chandigarh which has always been governed under the Capital of Punjab Development and Regulation Act 1952 and the Punjab Reorganisation Act 1966.
He said that the guidance given by Union Home Minister Amit Shah to the Chief Minister of Haryana Nayab Singh Saini to drop this matter completely shows exceptional statesmanship, rare administrative clarity and a deep respect for the constitutional framework that protects the dignity and harmonious balance of all states
Grewal said that this decision has not only upheld constitutional values, but has also honoured the sentiments of the people of Punjab who have always seen Chandigarh as an integral part of their historical legacy and emotional identity
He said that rejecting the proposal for allotting land for a separate Assembly building to Haryana has safeguarded the sanctity and shared heritage of the world renowned Capitol Complex which is a proud UNESCO World Heritage Site where new construction is not permitted under global preservation norms
Grewal further said that the Ministry of Home Affairs has taken a transparent, honest and nationally responsible stand that strengthens trust in the Government of India and reassures the nation that justice, fairness and constitutional propriety always remain the guiding principles of Amit Shah.
Grewal said that he along with all the people of Punjab wholeheartedly salute this courageous, sensitive and visionary decision that protects the legacy of Chandigarh, preserves national harmony and reflects the true spirit of federal respect under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
