Punjab Govt committed for providing potable drinking water in all govt schools
Ludhiana: Under the ‘Har Ghar Pani, Har Ghar Safai’ mission launched by Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh, all government schools and Aanganwaris of district Ludhiana now have potable water supply. Just recently, with the installation of potable piped water supply in 18 government schools, now all schools of district Ludhiana are covered.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (Development) Mr Sandeep Kumar informed that along with potable water supply, reverse osmosis (RO) systems have also been installed in 5 government schools. He said that all schools and Aanganwaris now have potable water for drinking, hand washing, toilet use and cooking of mid-day meals.
It is pertinent to mention that Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh had launched ‘Har Ghar Pani, Har Ghar Safai’ mission as part of Punjab government’s campaign to accomplish the goal of 100% potable water supply and maintaining cleanliness in all the rural households and schools of the state by March next year, thus making Punjab the first state in the country to achieve this distinction.
The 18 schools where potable drinking water has been provided included Government Primary Schools at village Dholanwal, Garhi Sheru, Hadiwal, Ratangarh, Chakki, Dhulewal, Kaunke, Lakhowal Khurd, Mand Sukhewal, Mehndipur, Rahimabad Kalan, Rahimabad Khurd, Sansowal Kalan, Shitabgarh, Udowal Kalan and Salempura, and Government Middle Schools at Mangli Tanda and Rahimabad Khurd.
Navdeep Singh of village Hadiwal thanked Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh for providing potable water supply in the Government Primary School of their village. He said that earlier the students did not have access to clean drinking water, but with the efforts of Punjab government, now they can stay healthy.
