Akali Dal stages protest outside DC office over power cuts

Sohana seeks daily public report on power cuts and supply position at district level to ensure consumers are aware of the actual situation

Mohali, September 16, 2026: The Shiromani Akali Dal staged a protest outside the DC office in Mohali on Wednesday against prolonged power cuts and irregular electricity supply across Punjab. The protest was led by Akali Dal Mohali Halqa In-charge and District President Parvinder Singh Sohana, with a large number of party leaders and workers raising slogans against the government and demanding immediate relief for consumers.

Sohana said that people, farmers and industrialists in Mohali and several other parts of Punjab were facing difficulties due to prolonged power cuts. He said irregular power supply was affecting industrial production and causing financial losses to businesses.

The Akali Dal put forward a five-point demand, seeking an immediate end to prolonged power cuts in villages and industrial areas, advance publication of power-cut schedules for each area, uninterrupted supply to industrial feeders, immediate replacement of faulty transformers and power lines, and an appropriate relief mechanism for consumers and industries affected by power cuts.

Sohana said the government should focus on improving the ground-level power supply situation instead of merely releasing figures on electricity availability. He also demanded that a daily public report on power cuts and the actual electricity supply position be issued at the district level so that consumers could have access to transparent information.

During the protest, the Akali Dal also burnt an effigy of Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. The party leaders subsequently submitted a memorandum of their demands to Nikhil Arora, District Programme Officer, Mohali.

Addressing the workers, Parvinder Singh Sohana, Bibi Paramjit Kaur Landran, Sukhwinder Singh Shindi, Sarbjit Singh Paras, Advocate Sukhbir Singh Gill, Councillor, and Harjit Singh CA said prolonged power cuts were causing serious inconvenience to people, farmers and industries. They urged the government to take the issue seriously and immediately improve electricity supply.
