Thiruvananthapuram, Sep 2 (IANS) The Air Force Museum at Akkulam in the state capital has got a fresh look, and it is now ready to tell the story of the Indian Air Force in a more engaging way.
The renovated museum was rededicated on Wednesday by Southern Air Command's Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Air Marshal Jasvir Singh Mann.
The museum has been upgraded with the younger generation in mind.
New exhibits from the Indian Air Force have been added, while existing displays have also been improved.
The museum now has interactive spaces, aimed at helping visitors learn about the history and achievements of the Indian Air Force in a simple and engaging way.
A new Operation Sindoor Corner is also part of the renovated museum.
The museum, located inside the Akkulam Tourist Village, is a joint initiative of the Kerala Tourism Department and the IAF's Southern Air Command. It is managed by the Department of Tourism Promotion Council, Thiruvananthapuram.
The idea for the museum was first conceived at the Southern Air Command in 2018.
The Kerala Tourism Department funded its infrastructure, while the IAF provided the exhibits.
The museum was formally inaugurated on October 8, 2021.
The aim is not just to preserve the past, but the museum also hopes to inspire the future.
It gives visitors a chance to see the heritage and technology of the IAF and also tells the story of the courage and professionalism of its men and women.
A major aim is to attract young people.
The museum seeks to give them a better understanding of the IAF and hopes to inspire more youngsters to consider joining the force.
The renovation has therefore changed more than the displays, and given the museum a new purpose.
A visit to the museum can now be both educational and inspiring, as children and young people can learn about aircraft, equipment and military operations.
They can also get a glimpse of the life and work of the country's air warriors.
The museum thus seeks to connect the past with the present, and more importantly, it hopes to connect today's young visitors with the future of the Indian Air Force.
