AICTE permits merger of colleges
Dr. Anshu Kataria, President , Punjab Unaided Colleges Association (PUCA).

Ludhiana: All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi has permitted existing Technical institutions for merging of Technical Colleges which are running under the same Trust/Society at different places. If parent institution fulfills the norms of its own and child’s institution in terms of the infrastructure then child institution can be merged. After merger, 50% land and 100% infrastructure of the child institution can be used for the new courses/colleges.

These reforms have been announced in the Approval Process Handbook (APH) which has been released 3 days back.

Dr. Anshu Kataria, President , Punjab Unaided Colleges Association (PUCA) said that PUCA has been constantly requesting to the Chairman, AICTE, Prof. Anil D. Sahasrabudhe and Vice Chairman, AICTE, Dr. M.P. Poonia for the reforms and this is one of the biggest reforms proposed by AICTE which will be very helpful for all the institutions.

Kataria added that earlier to this, merging of the institution was permitted within a radius of 2 km but now this condition has been waived off. With this major announcement of AICTE now the Colleges would be able to use the surplus land and building of the child institution for other educational purposes.

Kataria, further requested AICTE that norms of all the facilities in the institutions should be based on filled/admitted intake instead of approved intake.
