AI, Digital Skills Key to Media Careers: Prof Ashok

Rohtak, September 11, 2026: A journalism degree alone is no longer enough to build a successful career in the fast-changing media industry, said Prof Ashok Kumar of the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, Central University of Haryana, Mahendragarh.
He was speaking at a special interaction organised by the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication at Maharshi Dayanand University (MDU). He said students must acquire AI, digital and other future-ready skills to remain relevant in the evolving media landscape.
Prof Ashok said print, electronic and digital media were increasingly converging in modern newsrooms. He advised students to develop skills in video editing, graphic animation, web algorithms and podcasting, besides regularly reading newspapers and practising writing.
“Students need to become multitaskers in the rapidly changing cyber world,” he said.
Department chairperson Prof Gulab Singh welcomed Prof Ashok Kumar. The programme was conducted by faculty member Sunit Mukherjee. Dr Naveen Kumar and Dr Benul Tomar also shared their views. Senior faculty member Prof Harish Kumar, research scholars and students attended the programme.
Photography contest results announced
The department also announced the results of a mobile photography competition organised on August 19 to mark World Photography Day. MA Previous student Anju won the first prize, while MA Final student Skand secured second and MA Previous student Preeti third position. Prof Ashok Kumar presented prizes to the winners.
