Ahead of I-Day, DGP Punjab directs district police chiefs to enhance patrolling and surveillance

Chandigarh/Amritsar/Jalandhar/Ludhiana, August 10, 2026: In order to ensure peaceful celebrations of forthcoming Independence Day-2026 as mandated by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav on Monday, reviewed security arrangements across sensitive areas, key public congregation points, major urban locations, and vital installations, besides, issuing operational directives on inter-district coordination, high-visibility nakas, and round-the-clock surveillance to prevent any law and order breach in the border state.
The DGP Punjab was on a whirlwind tour to chair Law and Order Review Meetings with the officers of Commissionerates— Amritsar, Jalandhar and Ludhiana, and Police Ranges— Border, Jalandhar and Ludhiana.
Beginning his tour from Amritsar, DGP Gaurav Yadav reviewed security arrangements across sensitive border areas and directed all units to maintain heightened vigilance, intensify preventive measures, strengthen patrolling and surveillance, and ensure robust crowd management alongside a rapid, coordinated response. 
Emphasising the significance of the upcoming national event, the DGP noted that seamless coordination across the security grid and proactive assessment of emerging challenges remain the top priority for Punjab Police.
Following the Amritsar review, the DGP visited Jalandhar to personally evaluate the preparedness of Commissionerate Police Jalandhar and Jalandhar Range, covering the districts of Jalandhar, Kapurthala, Hoshiarpur, and SBS Nagar. Charing the meeting, he briefed officers on the current threat perception and emphasised the necessity of heightened vigilance, flexible force deployment, and swift response mechanisms to ensure citizens can celebrate Independence Day with complete confidence and without disruption.
Appreciating the commitment and professionalism of the force, he instructed officers to remain alert, accessible, and responsive to the public.
Concluding his tour in Ludhiana, DGP Gaurav Yadav chaired a security review meeting with officers of Commissionerate Police Ludhiana and Ludhiana Range to evaluate the Independence Day policing plan. 
He directed the officers to focus towards visible and effective deployment, as well as securing celebration venues and public gathering points.
The review meetings were attended by key officials including the Additional DGP (State Armed Police) MF Farooqui, IGP PAP Rajpal Singh Sandhu, Commissioner of Police (CP) Jalandhar Satinder Singh, CP Ludhiana Swapan Sharma, CP Amritsar cum DIG Border Range Harmanbir Singh Gill, DIG Jalandhar Range Naveen Singla, DIG Ludhiana Range Sandeep Goel, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Jalandhar Rural Harvinder Singh Virk, SSP Kapurthala Gaurav Toora, SSP Hoshiarpur Sandeep Malik, SSP SBS Nagar Tushar Gupta, SSP Khanna Dr Darpan Ahluwalia and SSP Jagraon Ankur Gupta.
