New Delhi, Jan 20 (IANS) Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva said on Tuesday that the claim made by Leader of the Opposition Atishi that she did not insult the Sikh Gurus during a House discussion is completely false.

He claimed that Delhi Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta ordered a forensic examination of the original Assembly recording, and the report established that Atishi referred to the Sikh Gurus using wholly inappropriate and disrespectful language.

The Delhi BJP President said that people of Delhi and the country want to know from Atishi, who claims to respect Sikhism and says her family relates to the Sikh faith, where she was from January 6 - the day she made the controversial comment in the Assembly – to January 18.

Sachdeva stated that on the morning of January 7, when Delhi Government Minister Kapil Mishra posted the video of Atishi’s objectionable remarks about the Sikh Gurus on the social media platform X, the issue spiralled into a big controversy.

The Speaker of the Delhi Legislative Assembly also issued Atishi a notice to appear before the House, but till the Punjab Government’s forensic report on the video came out, she neither declared Mishra’s post on X to be false nor appeared before the Assembly in response to the Speaker’s notice.

Sachdeva said that, in any case, Atishi is not the first “AAP” leader to insult a particular religion.

Before her, Delhi AAP chief Saurabh Bharadwaj insulted Christianity while presenting a skit on air pollution around last Christmas; in October 2024 former minister Rajendra Pal Gautam insulted Hindu deities; and in early 2021, AAP leaders and workers insulted the holy Quran.

“Therefore, the insult committed by Atishi is not the first religious offence by AAP leaders,” said the Delhi BJP chief.
