Affordable knee replacement program launched

Chandigarh, October 11, 2021: An affordable knee replacement program was launched at Santokh Multi Specialty Hospital here on Monday.
Giving details, Dr. Hardeep Singh Santokh, director of hospital said,” The patients with advanced grade 4 knee arthritis where knee replacement is the only option, can get both knees replaced at Rs. 1.80 lakh under the program.  The package is even much less that centre government fix rates,”
He further said,” Stage 4 osteoarthritis (OA) is considered the severe form of OA. People in stage 4 OA of the knee experience great pain and discomfort when they walk or move the joint,”
“That’s because the joint space between bones is dramatically reduced. The cartilage is almost completely gone, leaving the joint stiff and possibly immobile. The synovial fluid has decreased dramatically, and it no longer helps reduce the friction among the moving parts of a joint there by crippling the daily activity of patients, painkillers are of temporary relief and excessive use can damage kidneys and heart.”
Knee joint replacement which is also called as knee resurfacing is the best time-tested option available to live quality of life, he maintained.
