AERB holds radiation safety awareness programme for nuclear medicine facilities at Panjab University
Experts stress regulatory compliance and patient safety at AERB programme in PU
Chandigarh, March 6, 2026: The Atomic Energy Regulatory Board (AERB), Government of India, organised an awareness programme on radiation safety and regulatory aspects of nuclear medicine facilities for Northern India at Panjab University today. The programme was facilitated by the Centre for Nuclear Medicine, Panjab University.
The inaugural session was graced by Dean University Instructions Prof. Yojna Rawat and Registrar Prof. Y.P. Verma. Shri Deepak Ojha, Head, Division of Regulatory Inspections and Operating Plants Safety Division (OPSD), AERB, attended as the chief guest along with senior officials and scientists from AERB.
Nuclear medicine professionals from hospitals and institutions across Northern India participated in the programme. The event provided a platform for interaction between regulatory authorities and healthcare professionals and focused on improving compliance and safety practices in nuclear medicine facilities.
Addressing the participants, Ojha said radiation protection and adherence to regulatory requirements remain essential for the safe functioning of nuclear medicine radiation facilities. He said continued awareness and professional responsibility are important to maintain high standards of patient safety and occupational protection.
The programme aimed to strengthen regulatory awareness and promote best practices in nuclear medicine services. Experts from AERB delivered sessions on radiation protection and regulatory aspects of nuclear medicine facilities, regulatory inspections and operational feedback, user guidance on the e-LORA system for nuclear medicine facilities, and safety lessons from accidents and incident case studies. The sessions were followed by interactive discussions.
Earlier, the dignitaries were welcomed by Dr. Vijayta D. Chadha, Chairperson, Centre for Nuclear Medicine.
Lalit Mohan Sharma thanked AERB, the Panjab University authorities and all participants for their support in organising the programme.
