Administration starts ‘knock the door’ campaign to reach every PWD Voter

Nawanshahr, February 3, 2022: In a noble initiative to ensure every Person with Disability (PWD) elector vote on the polling day (February 20), the district administration has kick-started ‘Knock the Door’ campaign to reach every PWD voter of Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar to encourage their participation in assembly election.

Disclosing further details, Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Election Officer Vishesh Sarangal said that administration has begun this drive to make the electoral process more accessible to the PWD voters as their vote matters too.

He said that 121 electoral literacy teams have been constituted in the district and these teams would reach to every PWD voter and would motivate them for casting vote in elections. He said that the teams would made them aware about ‘pick and drop facility’ during polling day on February 20. Besides, teams would also sensitize them about opting postal ballot facility in case their health doesn’t permit them to visit the polling booth, he added.

Deputy Commissioner said that administration has prepared an elaborate plan for the PWD voters including sufficient number of vehicles in each assembly segment, ramps, wheel chairs, volunteers, extra seating or resting points of them, and other facilities would be ensured at polling booths.

He added that the district administration is committed for ensuring wider participation of PWD voters in the democratic process and said that it would leave no stone unturned to facilitate the PWD voters so that they do not face any kind of trouble while casting their voters.
