Administration Intensifies crackdown on Illegal sale of MTP kits under Mission Jeevni

Ludhiana, May 12, 2026: In continuation of the district administration’s ongoing drive against the illegal sale and misuse of Medical Termination of Pregnancy (MTP) kits, strict enforcement action is being undertaken under Mission JEEVNI, the flagship initiative of the District Administration aimed at achieving zero preventable maternal deaths in Ludhiana district.
Acting on the directions of Deputy Commissioner Himanshu Jain, the District Control Officer (DCO) Ludhiana-3 Navdeep Sandhu conducted inspections of two medical firms in the district.
During the inspection, one firm located at Raghubir Park, Haibowal Kalan, was found selling an MTP kit to a decoy customer deputed by the inspection team without a valid doctor’s prescription and without issuing a sale invoice, in clear violation of prescribed norms. The same was duly recorded in the inspection report prepared on the spot.
Further, the firm failed to produce any purchase record pertaining to the MTP kit during the inspection.
The Deputy Commissioner reiterated that unauthorized and unregulated sale of MTP kits poses a serious threat to maternal health and can lead to unsafe abortions, severe complications, and maternal deaths. He emphasized that Mission JEEVNI focuses on strengthening maternal healthcare systems, preventing high-risk pregnancies from turning fatal, and ensuring accountability at every level.
The district administration has warned that strict legal action will be initiated against any individual or establishment found violating regulations related to the sale of MTP kits or endangering maternal health in the district.
