Ludhiana, July 25, 2025: The district administration in collaboration with THINK Gas and GAIL India, organized an awareness session aimed at enhancing safety protocols and preventing third-party damage to underground gas pipelines in the district.
The session, held at the Deputy Commissioner’s office, focused on promoting safe excavation practices and building coordination among key stakeholders.
The session was conducted in the presence of Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Rakesh Kumar. Various key topics included the critical importance of pre-excavation communication through the “Dial Before You Dig” initiative, which urges individuals and departments to contact THINK Gas at 1800-572-7105 before commencing any digging or construction work. This protocol is vital to prevent accidental damage to buried gas infrastructure, which can lead to serious safety hazards.
The session also underscored the necessity of close coordination between departments such as the Public Works Department (PWD), all SDMs, NDRF, Fire Officer, police officers, civil surgeons team, DDF, forest department, Municipal Corporation, Water and Sewerage, and other civic agencies. Additionally, the role of mutual aid partners in emergency response was highlighted as an essential element of pipeline safety management.
In a proactive move to further enhance industrial safety standards in the region, the District Industrial Safety and Risk Management Committee was formally constituted. The committee will serve as a dedicated body to assess, monitor, and coordinate responses to industrial safety risks across Ludhiana. It will also facilitate regular communication between industries, emergency services, and district authorities to ensure timely action and compliance with safety regulations.
Officials from THINK Gas and GAIL India expressed their appreciation to the district administration for its forward-looking approach and commitment to public safety. They reiterated their support in working collaboratively with local agencies to uphold the highest safety and risk management standards. This initiative marks a significant step towards strengthening public safety measures and ensuring responsible infrastructure development in Ludhiana.
