Ludhiana, June 5, 2026: The district administration, in association with Vardhman Special Steels Limited (VSSL), organised a plantation drive at the Mini Secretariat on Friday to mark World Environment Day.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Narinder Singh Dhaliwal and Employment Generation, Skill Development & Training Officer Jeevandeep Singh, along with staff members, planted saplings during the drive.
A team of forest experts led by Pavneet Singh from Ecosikh highlighted the importance of environmental conservation and distributed cloth bags to encourage people to avoid the use of plastic bags.
Urging residents of the district to play an active role in making Ludhiana clean, green, and pollution-free, the ADC said plantation drives have become increasingly important as declining green cover remains a serious concern, posing threats to both the environment and human health. He added that it is the collective responsibility of every individual to contribute towards increasing green cover by planting more trees, which act as the “green lungs” of the district. Seeking wholehearted support from citizens in this noble cause, he appealed to people to plant and nurture saplings for the benefit of future generations.
The ADC also thanked the management of VSSL and its CSR Head, Amit Dhawan, for taking the lead in organising such initiatives aimed at creating a cleaner and greener Ludhiana. He appreciated Dhawan’s efforts in facilitating the plantation of nearly two lakh saplings over the past two years.
