Additional Public Prosecutor arrested by Vigilance Bureau while accepting bribe of Rs 10,000

Ludhiana, September 5, 2018: The Economic Offences Wing of Vigilance Bureau Ludhiana today arrested an Additional Public Prosecutor while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000 from a Ludhiana city resident. The arrested person has been identified as Jatinder Singh Chahal, who had demanded a bribe of Rs 20,000 from one Gurpreet Singh, , a resident of Miller Ganj, Ludhiana in lieu of not pressing with arguments over a plea in the court.
Jaswinder Singh, SSP VB Economic Offences Wing, Ludhiana, informed that Jatinder Singh Chahal was demanding a bribe of Rs 20,000 from Gurpreet Singh. The Additional Public Prosecutor was demanding this money in lieu of not pressing with arguments over a plea which had been filed by Gurpreet Singh to discharge him from a case (number 49/2016) which was registered by the Division number 2 police and which is being tried in the local court. This particular case was to come for hearing on September 7, 2018.
The SSP informed that finally, the deal was settled at Rs 10,000 and this amount was to be paid to Jatinder Singh Chahal today. Gurpreet brought this matter to the notice of Economic Offences Wing of VB, after which a trap was laid and Chahal was caught red handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000 from outside the District Courts Complex on the Feroze Gandhi Market Road, here. At the time of his arrest, he was sitting in his car.
SSP Jaswinder Singh informed that a case number 9 under section 7 of Prevention of Corruption Act 1988 has been registered against Jatinder Singh Chahal.
