Ludhiana, December 18, 2025: Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Rakesh Kumar on Thursday urged banks to provide maximum financial assistance to weaker sections under various government welfare schemes to promote their socio-economic development.
Presiding over the quarterly meeting of the District Consultative Committee (DCC) and District Level Review Committee (DLRC) of banks at Bachat Bhawan, the ADC directed banks to extend utmost support to priority sectors, including education, weaker sections, agriculture, MSMEs, and others. He emphasised ensuring zero pendency of applications under various financial schemes and according top priority to these sectors to achieve government targets. 
Kumar highlighted that these schemes are designed to alleviate poverty by creating financial opportunities for the underprivileged. He called upon banks to focus on the welfare of the poor and needy as part of their social responsibility, noting that such initiatives enable needy individuals to lead lives of dignity and pride. He also directed officials to raise awareness about these schemes to ensure wider beneficiary outreach.
Reviewing the banking sector's performance in the district over last quarters, the ADC noted that banks have disbursed credit advances worth Rs 77,419 crore to priority sectors. This includes Rs 4,912 crore to agriculture, Rs 35,189 crore to MSMEs, Rs 2,002 crore in crop loans, Rs 3,397 crore to weaker sections, Rs 298 crore for housing, Rs 526 crore to other priority sectors, and the remainder to additional categories.
The meeting also assessed progress under NABARD-sponsored schemes, as well as initiatives from departments like dairy, fisheries, and agriculture. Performance under programmes such as RSETI, PMEGP, Street Vendors' Atma Nirbhar Nidhi, Self-Help Groups, SVAMITVA, PM Vishwakarma Yojana, and others was reviewed.
Among those present were lead district Officer from RBI Harbans Lal Bhatia, Lead District Manager Gurdeep Singh Kang and other officials.
