Ludhiana, April 14, 2026: Additional Deputy Commissioner Poonam Singh on Tuesday directed officials of the Food and Civil Supplies Department and procurement agencies to ensure prompt purchase and hassle-free lifting of wheat from the mandis.
During her visit to the Gill Road grain market, the Additional Deputy Commissioner categorically stated that any inordinate delay in the procurement of grains is unwarranted  and intolerable. She instructed the officials to make elaborate arrangements by mobilising the entire government machinery so that farmers’ golden harvest is procured promptly as soon as it arrives in the market.
Singh stressed the need for a foolproof mechanism to be put in place for seamless procurement so that farmers do not face any inconvenience in the mandis. She further directed them to personally visit the grain markets every day to oversee the operations and ensure smooth, timely, and hassle-free procurement of wheat.
The Additional Deputy Commissioner also informed that till April 13, as much as 7,685 metric tonnes (MT) of wheat had arrived in the grain markets of the district, out of which payments amounting to Rs 3.18 crore had already been disbursed to the farmers. She reiterated that the district administration is fully committed to ensuring that farmers do not encounter any difficulties while selling their produce in the mandis across Ludhiana.
Singh appealed to farmers to bring only moisture-free grains to the market and urged them to refrain from burning wheat stubble, which poses a serious environmental hazard.
District Food and Civil Supplies Controller Sartaj Singh Cheema and other officials were also present on the occasion.
