Khanna, March 26, 2015: Eight persons including two women were killed in a fierce road accident near village Powat, near Shri Machhiwara Sahib when the Innova vehicle in which they were travelling collided head-on with a truck in the morning. The deceased were identified as Joginder Singh(55), Ranjit Kaur Gill NRI(60), Mehakdeep Singh(18) NRI, Tanvir Singh(18), Manmeet Singh(16), Kulvir Singh(20) and Beer Kaur(45) all residents of Moga and Surinderpal Singh driver of Droli Bhai.  Six of the deceased were said to be close relatives and belongs to one family in which two were NRIs- a woman and her grandson and a father and his two real sons. This accident was so fierce that all the occupants died on the spot and were evacuated from the vehicle with great efforts made by police personnel and villagers.
As per information, Joginder Singh a resident of Moga along with his two sons and two NRI relatives was going to pay obedience at Anadpur Sahib and they left their house at about 6 AM in an Innova vehicle. When they reached near Powat village on Chamkaur Sahib –Neelon road suddenly their vehicle collided head on with a truck coming from opposite side.
As per villagers they heard a great noise and sensing some trouble they reached on the site. When they reached they found all occupants in the vehicle almost dead. They immediately informed the Machhiwara Police and the police parties reached on the site and started evacuating the occupants but all eight were dead when evacuated. SSP Khanna Gurpreet Singh Gill along with SP(D) Khanna Satinderpal Singh reached on the site and supervised the rescue operation and the bodies of the deceased were sent to Civil Hospital Samrala for post mortem in police vehicles where a family member Gurcharan Singh of Mehna was present along with other close relatives of the deceased.      
As per Gurcharan Singh the deceased  Joginder Singh and his family members were residents of village Mehna and at present they were staying at Dasmesh Nagar Moga as they had constructed their house at Moga some time ago. As per DSP Samrala Jagwinder Singh Cheema the post mortem of the bodies was on in the civil hospital and said that the bodies will be sent to Moga after the post mortem in the evening.
Although the accident took place at about 8 AM and their bodies were taken to Civil Hospital Samrala for post mortem at about 10.30 am in police vehicles but no Civil Official of Samrala and Machhiwara reached on the site. Even the van of Health Department reached on the site after the bodies were taken from the site.
As per Gurcharan Singh both NRI Ranjit Kaur and her grandson   Mehakdeep had come to India about one month ago from Toranto Canada and were to return on March 31. Gurcharan Singh stated that the family had gone to Darbar Sahib Amritsar yesterday and today they left for Anandpur Sahib but died on the way.
