ACC launches state-of-the-art Green Building Centre in Himachal Pradesh

Chandigarh, May 12, 2022: ACC Limited, India’s most sustainable cement manufacturer, is reinforcing its commitment to sustainable construction and a greener future for India through its state-of-the-art Green Building Centre (GBC) in Kangra district, Himachal Pradesh, which was inaugurated today.
Through such centres, ACC aims to create a social, environmental and financial impact towards developing cities in India. The GBC is a modern facility that ensures production excellence, providing durable materials to customers at reduced application costs, supported by quality service.
The centre was inaugurated jointly by Honourable Mrs. Sarveen Choudhary, Minister for Social Justice & Empowerment, Government of Himachal Pradesh; and Mr. Sushrut Pant, Chief Marketing Officer, ACC Limited and Ambuja Cements; in the presence of Mr. Danish Rashid, Head-GBC of ACC; Senior Officials of the State Industries Department and Mr. Sunil Sangwan, Head-Sales Unit of Himachal Pradesh of ACC.
ACC’s GBCs support local micro-entrepreneurs to make and distribute affordable cement-based home building components and pre-fabricated materials such as fly ash bricks, concrete blocks, tiles, pavers, roofing, walling, frames and sanitation units. The company’s goal is to promote sustainable construction through a business model that provides affordable and green building materials, with each GBC across India currently enabling 100 homes every month, while generating 30 direct and 120 indirect jobs.
The GBCs represent ACC’s construction expertise and demonstrate its support to sustainable rural enterprise. The GBC in Kangra will prevent usage of more than 0.7 million tonnes of fertile soil, 0.05 million tonnes of fossil fuels and usage of 0.33 million tonnes of waste. At the same time, the unit will also prevent the felling of more than 32,000 trees, helping maintain greenery.
Mrs.Choudhary expressed delight and praised ACC for the initiative as it helps stimulate entrepreneurship and help develop skills of locals, while also ensuring a better tomorrow for all.
Sridhar Balakrishnan, MD & CEO of ACC Limited, said, "We are glad to launch our Fully Automated Green Building Centre in Kangra. These centres promote sustainable construction, low-cost housing development and utilization of resources while conserving the ecosystem. Superior quality materials are manufactured using fly ash bricks while preserving soil and air quality. These projects are undertaken in rural or semi-urban areas where sustainable construction is the need of the hour. The areas benefit from our unique business model and the training and employment of thousands of small-scale construction workers. We would like to congratulate our Partners Mr. Ravinder Mohan and Mr. Amit Kaul along with their family members and believe that the relationship between ACC and its GBC Partners will work towards creating opportunities for the people of Kangra.”
Apart from providing rural and semi-urban housing solutions, the project is aligned with the Indian government's vision of sanitation and the Prime Minister's ‘Clean India’ Campaign by helping beneficiaries build superior quality toilets. Model toilets and houses are being constructed, according to the Government of India’s designs, and local residents can access and view these models. With these products, local government bodies and Panchayats in Kangra will gain insights on how to significantly improve their village infrastructure.
