Ludhiana, July 21, 2025: Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) took a significant step toward environmental protection and a greener India by organizing a massive plantation drive today in the Mattewara Forest.

A large number of volunteers, students, local residents, and distinguished guests participated in the event. This program was held in commemoration of the 100th birth anniversary of Prof. Yashwantrao Kelkar. On this occasion, ABVP pledged that “Yashwant’s spirit lives in every tree”—not merely a slogan, but a vision to inspire future generations for a greener and safer tomorrow.

The chief guest, ABVP North Zone Organizing Secretary Gaurav Attri, in his motivating address, said, “Plantation is not just an act—it is a responsibility toward our nation and nature. Inspired by the thoughts of Yashwantrao Ji, we see his ideals reflected in every sapling we plant.”

Special guest Mohan Singh, Deputy Range Officer from the Forest Department, emphasized that the protection of forests and trees is essential for environmental stability. He added that such initiatives not only enhance greenery but also raise public awareness.

On this occasion, environment-friendly saplings like Peepal, Neem, Mango, Amla, and Tulsi were planted. Specific responsibilities for nurturing the plants were assigned to the volunteers.

At the end of the program, ABVP appealed to all students and citizens to actively participate in this campaign and pledge to plant at least one tree in their lifetime. The Parishad also unveiled a detailed plan for future plantation drives in schools, colleges, and public places.

Prominent attendees included ABVP Punjab State Organizing Secretary Shamsher Singh, State Secretary Manmeet Sohal, Department Head Anubhav Jain, City Secretary Saket Sharma, District Convenor Rithik Puri, Indigenous Cell State Convenor Vishwas Vaid, City Joint Secretary Omcy Sharma, Amarendra Kumar, and Block Officer Paramjeet Singh.
