New Delhi, January 16, 2026: National BJP Leader, Advocate Sukhminderpal Singh Grewal Bhukhri Kalan said that the situation in Punjab today reflects open authoritarian behaviour by the AAP government.

In a press statement here today, Grewal said that he strongly condemns the functioning of the AAP Punjab government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and influenced by its Delhi based leadership. According to him, Punjab is being pushed towards darkness due to arrogance fear intimidation and misuse of power.

Grewal said that when power overtakes a person it destroys conscience and that is exactly what has happened to the Bhagwant Mann government, which now appears panicked and is trying to silence independent and honest media voices.

He said that earlier false cases were filed against journalists and now police raids intimidation and pressure are being carried out at the Punjab Kesri offices in Jalandhar and Bathinda.

Grewal stated that this cannot be called governance. It is “Gundaraj”. It is “fear-based politics”. It signals the decline of democracy in Punjab.

He said that using the police to intimidate a respected media house is a serious misuse of state machinery and clearly shows that the AAP government has forgotten democratic values constitutional boundaries and moral responsibility.

Grewal said that he strongly condemns this direct attack on press freedom and warned that Punjab is being turned into a police state where asking questions of the government is treated as an offence and journalists are seen as adversaries.

Grewal said that history will remember this government not for reforms or development but for suppression intolerance and misuse of power.

He said firmly and without fear, Media will not bow, Truth will not surrender.

Grewal urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah to take immediate and strict notice of the situation and initiate appropriate action, stating that Punjab must not be allowed to suffer under ego driven governance.
