AAP Sounds the Bugle for Punjab’s Water — All-Party Meet Tomorrow, Special Assembly Session on Monday

Chandigarh, May 1, 2025: Punjab Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) President Aman Arora today held a significant meeting with party office bearers to address the pressing issue of Punjab’s water rights. Joined by his cabinet colleagues, MLAs, and senior leaders, Arora condemned the BJP-led central government’s continuous betrayal and exploitation of Punjab’s natural resources.

“Punjab has been systematically cheated by the BJP, which has consistently attempted to infringe upon our rightful claims. The latest conspiracy involves looting Punjab's waters to benefit Haryana, even when Haryana is already receiving more than its share,” Arora stated.

Arora highlighted that Punjab, with a 60% share in the Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB), is facing attempts to divert its waters unjustly to Haryana. Haryana, which is already receiving 4,700 cusecs against its allocated 1,700 cusecs, is now being set to benefit from additional theft of Punjab’s rightful share. “This is outright robbery of Punjab’s lifeline, and we will not allow this injustice to continue,” Arora affirmed.

AAP has called for an All-Party Meeting at 10 AM tomorrow, inviting all political parties in Punjab to take a clear stand on the issue. “This is the moment of truth. The people of Punjab will see who stands with them and who supports BJP’s treachery. Akali Dal, Congress, and BJP leaders must clarify their positions on this critical issue,” Arora demanded.

To intensify the fight, the Punjab Government has also called a special session of the Punjab Assembly on Monday to discuss and take concrete steps to protect Punjab's water resources.

AAP National Convener Arvind Kejriwal is actively leading the party's efforts on the ground to safeguard Punjab's water rights. Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann has already inspected critical water infrastructure and dams on-ground to ensure that no additional diversion of water occurs. AAP has also organized statewide protests against BJP’s plans, with massive public support from Punjabis across all districts.

Arora directly challenged BJP leaders, including Sunil Jakhar, Ravneet Bittu, Tarun Chugh, and Captain Amarinder Singh, to choose between Punjab’s welfare and their allegiance to the BJP. “If you are true sons of Punjab, stand with your people and ensure this decision to divert water is overturned. If not, resign from your positions and sever ties with BJP,” Arora asserted.

AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal and CM Bhagwant Mann have pledged unwavering commitment to protect Punjab’s water. “The AAP Government ensures that not a single drop of Punjab’s water will be allowed to flow unjustly outside the state,” said Arora.

Arora concluded with a warning: “BJP and the central government must abandon their malicious attempts. Punjab’s waters are for Punjabis, and we will fight this battle at every level—legal, constitutional, and on the streets—to protect our rights.”
