AAP Punjab Slams BJP Over “Bheda-Bakrian” Remark for Punjab's MLAs, Demands Apology from PM Narendra Modi

Chandigarh, May 6, 2026: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab strongly condemned a controversial remark made by a BJP leader on social media, in which Punjab’s elected MLAs were compared to “sheep and goats.” AAP leaders termed the statement as deeply insulting, not just to elected representatives but to the democratic mandate of nearly three crore Punjabis.
AAP Punjab Chief Spokesperson and MLA Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal said that all AAP MLAs and ministers stand united with the party leadership and the people of Punjab. Referring to recent misinformation campaigns, Dhaliwal stated that AAP legislators had visited Delhi along with Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann to reaffirm their unity and support for the government’s work. He strongly objected to the BJP leader’s tweet, calling it “shameful, derogatory, and an insult to the dignity of elected representatives chosen by the people.”
Dhaliwal announced that AAP will file an official complaint with the Punjab Vidhan Sabha Speaker against the use of such offensive language. He added that such remarks reflect the BJP’s anti-Punjab mindset and warned that the people of Punjab will give a befitting reply to such arrogance.
Dhaliwal asserted that the people of Punjab are fully prepared to challenge the BJP’s political dominance and will decisively stop Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s winning streak. He said that Punjabis will stand firm against what he described as the BJP’s arrogance and anti-Punjab mindset, warning that the party will be taught a strong political lesson in the upcoming elections. Dhaliwal added that Punjab has a history of resisting injustice and will once again rise united to defeat the BJP and send a clear message across the country.
Minister Aman Arora also condemned the statement, saying, “The BJP’s comparison of Punjab's chosen MLAs to cattle is absolutely shameful. You are not just insulting politicians, you are insulting the democratic mandate of three crore Punjabis.” He demanded an immediate apology from Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Punjab Minister Baljit Kaur stated that by referring to elected representatives as “sheep and goats,” the BJP has insulted the entire population of Punjab. “This arrogance will never be tolerated by Punjabis,” she said, urging PM Modi to apologize without delay.
Echoing similar sentiments, MLA Hardeep Singh Mundian said that the remark exposes BJP’s anti-Punjab thinking and is a direct insult to three crore Punjabis. Cabinet Minister Harbhajan Singh ETO added that such language reflects the BJP’s “cheap mentality,” asserting that Punjabis will never tolerate such disrespect.
Several other ministers, including Dr. Balbir Singh, Ravjot Singh, Mohinder Bhagat, Lal Chand Kataruchak, Gurmeet Singh Khuddian, and Barinder Kumar Goyal, also took to social media platform X to condemn the remark and demand accountability.
AAP Punjab reiterated that insulting elected representatives is equivalent to insulting the people of Punjab and warned the BJP against making such statements in the future. The party maintained that it stands united and committed to serving the people, regardless of political attacks.
