AAP Has Betrayed Punjab’s Farmers While Modi Govt. Lent Full Support: Tarun Chugh

Chandigarh, September 3, 2026: BJP Rajya Sabha MP and National Headquarters In-Charge Tarun Chugh said that the Bhagwant Mann government has completely failed to protect the interests of Punjab’s farmers, and the Kisan Mazdoor Morcha’s decision to hold dharnas outside the residences of Punjab ministers and leaders from September 14 exposes the government’s failure on farmers’ issues.

He said farmers being forced to repeatedly take to the streets is proof that the AAP government has failed to deliver on the promises it made before coming to power.

Tarun Chugh said the Kisan Mazdoor Morcha is demanding government procurement of basmati, maize, moong, mustard and potato at MSP. Farmers allege that they are being forced to sell these crops below remunerative prices. The Morcha has also demanded complete debt waiver for farmers and agricultural labourers. He said these demands expose the hollowness of the Bhagwant Mann government’s claims of being pro-farmer.

He said AAP made tall promises to farmers before the elections, but after coming to power, it has failed to resolve their concerns and has instead pushed them towards repeated agitations. Farmers are today demanding basic protections such as MSP procurement, freedom from debt and protection against crop losses.

Tarun Chugh said that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, the Central Government has strengthened farmers’ economic and crop-risk protection through successive MSP increases, PM-KISAN and the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana. PMFBY is being implemented in 23 States and Union Territories, while the Punjab Government has so far kept the state outside the scheme.

He said the contrast between Punjab and Haryana is clear. The BJP government in Haryana is ensuring MSP procurement for 24 crops. In Punjab, farmers are being forced to sit outside the residences of AAP ministers to demand effective government procurement at MSP. This makes it clear that the problem is not the MSP system but the intent and policies of the Punjab Government.

Tarun Chugh said Prime Minister Modi is providing farmers security through MSP, direct financial support and crop insurance, while the Bhagwant Mann government is offering farmers little beyond assurances and publicity. Punjab’s farmers have every right to ask what AAP has actually delivered for them after coming to power.

He said the Bhagwant Mann government must stop misleading farmers and start answering their legitimate concerns. Punjab’s farmers do not need more promises or publicity; they need MSP procurement, debt relief and protection against crop losses.
