AAP Government on the Brink of Bankruptcy Should Issue White Paper on Punjab’s Financial Position: Parminder Mehta

Ludhiana, August 22, 2026: Senior leader and former councillor Parminder Mehta has raised serious questions over the financial position of Punjab under the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government and demanded that the state government immediately issue a white paper on its actual economic condition.
Parminder Mehta said that Punjab’s continuously rising debt, increasing government expenditure and financial policies being adopted to fulfil electoral promises had put considerable pressure on the state’s economy. He alleged that instead of informing the people about the actual financial situation, the government was trying to mislead them through figures and announcements.
He said the government should publicly clarify the total debt currently outstanding against Punjab, the increase in debt over the past few years, the amount being spent on interest payments and the expenditure from the state exchequer on various schemes and guarantees.
Mehta said the people of Punjab have every right to know the actual position of the state’s income and expenditure. He demanded that the government make public complete details regarding total debt, per capita debt, interest payments, government liabilities, revenue receipts, capital expenditure and expenditure on various schemes.
He said that if the government’s financial management is strong, it should have no hesitation in coming before the public with facts and figures. However, if the economic situation is concerning, the government should not hide it but instead present a concrete roadmap for improvement.
Former councillor Mehta said Punjab was already facing serious economic challenges and, at such a time, it was the government’s responsibility to focus on financial discipline, employment, industry, investment and increasing the state’s revenue rather than political announcements.
Parminder Mehta urged the Bhagwant Mann government to convene a special session of the Punjab Assembly for a detailed discussion on the state’s financial position and issue a white paper to place the complete picture of Punjab’s economic condition before the people.
