AAP Government Looted Punjab’s Disaster Relief Fund: Tarun Chugh

Chandigarh, October 6, 2025: BJP National General Secretary Tarun Chugh today exposed the Aam Aadmi Party government’s unprecedented misuse of Rs 12,589.59 crore of the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF). Instead of keeping this vital fund in a separate account as mandated, the money was siphoned into the general pool and shamelessly spent on routine government expenses. This is the first time in the country’s history that a state government has been caught red-handed diverting disaster relief meant for the people.

Chugh said that the money, which should have gone to strengthening embankments, flood protection and relief for suffering farmers, was instead wasted on Arvind Kejriwal’s personal security, private jet bills, and political advertisements in states as far away as Tamil Nadu. He said the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) had already flagged this loot, but the Punjab government failed to provide any proper accounting of the funds.

He added that while the Centre announced a special package of Rs 1,600 crore and has already released Rs 805 crore, the AAP government continues to mislead farmers by blaming the Union government. The truth is that Punjab had sufficient funds for relief, but AAP shamelessly diverted them. Today, when farmers need timely compensation, the government is scrambling because the disaster funds were looted.

Chugh strongly asserted that this is not just financial mismanagement but a betrayal of Punjab’s people. He said the BJP will continue to raise its voice against AAP’s corruption, fiscal irresponsibility and criminal neglect of Punjab’s farmers, who have been left abandoned at the time of their greatest need.
