AAP failed in flood management, now hurling false and misleading charges at Centre: Chugh
Centre’s commitment to Punjab unwavering, AAP turning disaster into politics: Chugh
Chandigarh, September 26, 2025: BJP National General Secretary Tarun Chugh strongly objected to the resolution passed in the Punjab Vidhan Sabha and said that the AAP government is trying to cover up its glaring failures by throwing false and misleading accusations at the Centre. Chugh said that instead of cleaning Punjab’s drainage system, strengthening Dhussi bunds, and carrying out timely desilting, the AAP government kept working at the behest of the sand mining mafia. “This is why more than 2,100 villages in Punjab have been left devastated by floods,” he added.
Chugh clarified that the Rs. 1,600 crore relief package announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi is not the final amount but the first instalment under disaster management norms. He said that before this, the Centre had already allocated Rs. 12,000 crore to Punjab under the SDRF. “As per norms, immediate relief is released first and then additional assistance is provided after assessment,” he added.
Chugh also hit out at the Congress for colluding with AAP inside the Vidhan Sabha. “The shadow-boxing between Congress and AAP was visible to everyone. Instead of demanding a white paper on AAP’s repeated failures in flood management, Congress has chosen to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with AAP in wasting Punjab taxpayers’ money,” Chugh said.
He further criticised the Punjab government for blaming the Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB). “Decisions to release water are never unilateral; they require the consent of all partner states. By escaping its responsibility of strengthening Punjab’s flood-management infrastructure, the AAP government is scapegoating BBMB to cover up its incompetence,” Chugh added.
