A Visionary in Print: The Legacy of Professor Qi Yuansheng

It is with great honor that I introduce Professor Qi Yuansheng, a distinguished Academician of the Academy of Engineering and Technology of Developing World (AETDEW) and the Pakistan Academy of Engineering, whose transformative contributions have redefined the global printing industry. Renowned as a trailblazer, Professor Qi’s work spans groundbreaking scientific research, dedicated talent development, exemplary industry leadership, and extensive international collaboration. These remarkable accomplishments have rightfully earned him the prestigious title of “A Visionary in Print.” The honor was bestowed upon him during the recently held “Where Print Meets Vision” conference in Beijing—a moment that celebrated not only his unmatched dedication but also his transformative impact on the world of print.
At the forefront of innovation, Professor Qi has spearheaded over 30 prestigious national and Beijing science and technology initiatives, including the National Key R&D Program focused on networked collaborative manufacturing in intelligent packaging and printing. These efforts have propelled technological advancements, setting new benchmarks for the industry. His prolific academic contributions include over 100 scholarly papers and two monographs, many indexed in leading global systems, providing a robust theoretical foundation for printing research. With more than 20 patents—three successfully commercialized—and contributions to four industry standards, his innovations have catalyzed significant industrial progress. Notably, four of his technological achievements have been recognized, with two reaching international advanced standards and two leading domestically, underscoring his pioneering influence.
As a dedicated educator and doctoral/master’s supervisor, particularly at Beijing University of Technology, Professor Qi has cultivated a wealth of talent, strengthening the industry’s future. His leadership extends to influential roles in organizations such as IEEE, the Chinese Mechanical Engineering Society, and the China Printing and Equipment Industry Association, where he fosters vital industry dialogue and collaboration. A champion of industry-university-research synergy, Professor Qi has organized landmark events, including the 2025 Beijing-ASEAN Packaging and Printing Technology Forum and the China Printing and Packaging Academic Annual Conference. He has delivered insightful presentations at over 30 international conferences and led training programs that have empowered more than 300 professionals. His global outreach, through academic and technical collaborations with nations such as Germany, Malaysia, Pakistan, Australia, and the UK, has enriched the international printing community. Professor Qi’s remarkable contributions have earned him prestigious accolades, including a Second Prize of the Beijing Municipal Teaching Achievement Award, a China Machinery Industry Science and Technology Award, three National Top 100 Innovation Achievement Awards in the Printing Industry, and several other distinguished honors. These recognitions reflect his enduring legacy as a visionary leader whose work continues to shape the future of the global printing industry.
