70 per cent of Ludhiana’s voters have already been matched with the 2003 voter list: ADC Poonam Singh

Ludhiana, April 22, 2026: Additional Deputy Commissioner (General)-cum-Additional District Election Officer Poonam Singh on Wednesday informed that nearly 70 per cent of voters in Ludhiana have already been matched with the 2003 voter list. She also appealed to voters to extend their full support to Booth Level Officers (BLOs) in this ongoing mapping exercise.
Presiding over a meeting, Singh stated that the district currently has a total of 2,696,474 voters, out of which 1,868,074 (approximately 70 per cent) have been successfully matched with the 2003 voter list by BLOs. She mentioned that in urban constituencies, the progress remains below 65 per cent prior to the SIR exercise, and efforts are being intensified to speed up the process. She further explained that BLOs across Assembly constituencies are organizing camps at their respective booths to facilitate the work. In addition, door-to-door verification is being carried out to ensure accurate mapping with the 2003 voter list. 
Singh urged all voters in the district to cooperate fully with this important initiative of the Election Commission of India and to provide the necessary documents when required.
The Election Commission of India has categorized voters in India into different groups for SIR. To establish identity along with address, voters are required to submit documents from a list of 12 documents issued by the Commission.
*Category A* includes voters aged 38 years or above whose names are already included in the 2003 voter list. These voters are not required to submit any documents.
*Category B* includes voters aged 38 years or above whose names are not included in the 2003 voter list. Such voters must submit any one document from the list of 12 approved documents along with the enumeration form.
*Category C* includes voters aged between 21 and 37 years, where either the mother’s or father’s name appears in the 2003 voter list. These voters must submit one of their own documents along with a copy of the parent’s record whose name is in the 2003 voter list.
*Category D* includes voters aged 18 to 20 years whose both parents’ names are present in the 2003 voter list. These voters must submit one of their own documents along with copies of both parents’ voter list records from 2003.
*Category E* includes voters aged between 21 and 37 years whose parents’ names are not present in the 2003 voter list. These voters must submit one of their own documents and one document of either parent from the list of 12 documents.
*Category F* includes voters aged 18 to 20 years where one of the parents’ names is present in the 2003 voter list. These voters must submit one of their own documents, one document of the parent whose name is not in the 2003 voter list, and a copy of the record of the parent whose name is included in the 2003 voter list.
*Category G* includes voters aged 18 to 20 years whose parents’ names are not present in the 2003 voter list. These voters must submit one of their own documents along with one document each for both parents.
