6th Convocation of USOL, PU

Chandigarh, March 25, 2019: University School of Open Learning, Panjab University, Chandigarh, celebrated its 6th Convocation and 46th Annual Prize Distribution Function on Monday. The function was presided over by Dean University Instruction, Professor ShankarjiJha and Mr.K.P.Singh, DGP Vigilance (Haryana) delivered the convocation address. Mr.K.P.Singh is a writer with twenty books to his credit and also a philanthropist dealing with various shades of humanitarian issues. He has been honoured ten times for his contribution to the police services. The convocation was attended by other dignitaries like Dr.Parvinder Singh, Controller of Examinations, Dr. Sanjay Kaushik, Director of ICSSR and Dean, College Development Council and the Registrar Prof. Karamjit Singh.
Mr. K.P. Singh congratulated the students on receiving their degrees and emphasised the need to put in practice what one learn. Mr. Singh’s speech was dotted with various anecdotes which laid stress on the value of action in maintaining the unity and integrity of the country while maintaining human dignity. He cited the example of a river to emulate its patience and calmness. Prof.Shankarji Jha emphasised upon the idea of India, Indianness and the dire need to protect our Indianess. His focus was on the preservation of human values which have perennial significance.
Chairperson, Professor Yojna Rawat highlighted the events and activities carried out throughout the year. She spoke about the various special lectures organized by all Departments to cater to the academic needs of the students. Workshops for enhancing the development of the faculty and development of E-Content were organized. A special Workshop was organized for enlightening the faculty regarding the parameters for NAAC. One of the highlights of the previous year was the Book Festival organized by the USOL Library wherein one thousand books were selected by the faculty members for the purchase.
As many as 94 students were conferred degrees. Four members from the non-teaching staff were also honoured for their meritorious services.
