Jalandhar: Two-Day 65th National Greco Roman Wrestling Championship-2021 is all set to take place from 21st  to 22nd February 2021 at the wrestling mats of LPU in Punjab. This year Championship would draw even more fan attention as it will serve the mammoth competitions between wrestling stalwarts. All of the young wrestling fans can catch the great actions of this wrestling style at LPU Campus.

In this regard, an important meeting was held at LPU’s Shanti Devi Mittal Auditorium, where Padma Shri and Arjuna awardee world renowned wrestler Shri Kartar Singh shared his thoughts on the upcoming National Championship. This state-level meeting was also chaired by Kartar Singh, who has the rare distinction of being the only Indian (Men) wrestler to win two gold medals (in freestyle wrestling) at the Asian Games (1978 and 1986). He has also been featured in three Olympics.

Chairperson Kartar Singh encouraged all wrestlers of the country to be confident and committed in their future pursuance. He also conveyed best wishes for all participating wrestlers to get decorated with shining medals in the championship.

The elaborate meeting was held among various stakeholders including two time Asian Games’ Gold Medalist, Jagjit Saroya of Jagjit Wrestling Academy; and, Arjuna Awardee Randhir Singh Dhira. All appreciated the efforts made by the aforesaid Academy in Punjab for promoting wrestling competitions of such a level. The meeting discussed various important preparations to be made for the national event. Eminent dignitaries from various wrestling federations across Punjab were also present during this occasion.

Dean Division of Student Welfare at LPU, Dr Sorabh Lakhanpal not only convened the important meeting but also propagated the enchanting sports cause. He anticipated that LPU sportsmen & women would also be able to witness the national championship with renowned national wrestlers of the calibre of Sunil Kumar, Mukesh Khatri, Ravinder Khatri, Hardeep Singh and such others.
