50 Underprivileged Students from 26 Districts of Andhra Pradesh Receive Free Admission at VIT-AP University Under STARS Scheme
Vice-Chancellor Dr. P. Arulmozhivarman Highlights VIT-AP's Commitment to Inclusive and Equitable Education
Amaravati, Andhra Pradesh, June 30, 2026: Reinforcing its commitment to making quality higher education accessible to deserving students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds, VIT-AP University has admitted 50 meritorious students, who secured top ranks in the Intermediate Public Examination (IPE) from 26 districts of Andhra Pradesh, under its prestigious STARS (Support the Advancement of Rural Students) Scheme. The selected students have been granted a 100% waiver of tuition and hostel fees, enabling them to pursue higher education without financial burden.
The STARS Scheme, conceptualized by Dr. G. Viswanathan, Hon'ble Chancellor of VIT, was launched in 2008 at VIT, Vellore, with the objective of empowering academically talented rural students from economically weaker sections. Introduced at VIT-AP University in 2017, the initiative has since been transforming the lives of deserving students across Andhra Pradesh by providing them with access to world-class education.
Addressing the students, Dr. P. Arulmozhivarman, Vice-Chancellor, VIT-AP University, said, "Education has the power to transform lives and break the cycle of poverty. Many of our STARS students come from families of daily wage earners, small and marginal farmers, domestic workers, and other economically vulnerable sections of society, where pursuing higher education often seems beyond reach. Through the STARS Scheme, VIT-AP is committed to nurturing their potential, empowering them with quality education, and enabling them to become future leaders and responsible citizens who contribute meaningfully to nation-building."
He further noted that the university remains steadfast in its mission of ensuring that no deserving student is deprived of quality education due to financial limitations.
The STARS Scheme provides comprehensive financial assistance by covering 100% of tuition fees and hostel accommodation, allowing students to focus entirely on their academic and personal development in a supportive learning environment.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Jagadish Chandra Mudiganti, Registrar, VIT-AP University, said, "At VIT-AP, we firmly believe that talent should never be limited by financial circumstances. The STARS Scheme reflects our vision of creating equal opportunities for deserving students and empowering them through education. We are proud to welcome these bright young minds into the VIT-AP family and remain committed to supporting them throughout their academic journey."
The STARS initiative has been widely appreciated as a model of educational inclusion, offering life-changing opportunities to talented students from underserved communities while contributing to social equity through higher education.
Among those present on the occasion were Dr. Manoj Kumar Mishra, Assistant Director – Admissions.
