5-Day AICTE-ATAL sponsored Workshop on ‘Econometric Techniques for Social Sciences’ commenced at CUPB

Bathinda, December 27,2021: The Dept. of Economic Studies of the Central University of Punjab, Bathinda (CUPB), under the guidance of the honourable Vice-Chancellor Prof. Raghavendra P. Tiwari, commenced a five-day AICT-ATAL sponsored Faculty Development Programme Workshop entitled Econometric Technique for Social Sciences, scheduled from December 27—31, 2021. Around 135 faculty and research scholars from across the country registered in this workshop.
In the inaugural session, Dr. Sandeep Kaur, Workshop Convener and HoD, Dept. of Economic Studies, stated that Econometrics has emerged as an interdisciplinary research area at the interface of diverse academic disciplines that deals with the study of various analyses through the basics of Economics, Mathematics, and Statistics. She further added that this workshop will provide knowledge of basic concepts, terminology, and hands on training to participants in broad areas of econometrics in the social sciences.
While delivering the welcome address, Prof. Vinod K. Garg, Dean Student Welfare, elaborated on the importance of various econometrics tools to evaluate different types of data and discussed their applications in the field of environmental science. He mentioned that this workshop will help the participants from different discipline in applying econometrics concepts to their research data analysis and interpretation. Prof. Amandeep Kaur, Dean, School of Engineering and Technology, expressed her gratitude towards the expert speakers of this workshop. She also highlighted that the concepts of econometrics would have wider applications and are currently helping data science engineers dig deep into meta data and find meaningful inferences.
The five-day workshop will feature fourteen expert lecture session during which eminent faculty from institutes of national importance will dwell on different sub themes. On the first day, Prof. Amarjit Singh Sethi (Retd. Professor, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar), Dr. Nitin Arora (Panjab University, Chandigarh) and Prof. Lakhwinder Singh (Retd. Professor, Punjabi University, Patiala) delivered lectures on the basics of economics, linear regression model, and introduction of research in social sciences, respectively. The valedictory ceremony of this programme will be organized on December 31, 2021.
