Ludhiana, March 24, 2015: Rajesh Bagha, Chairman, Punjab State Commission for Scheduled Castes, today said that the Punjab government's post-matric scholarship scheme for SC students is going on successfully as more than 3.05 lakh students have already been benefitted. He said that the Punjab government has started several schemes for the welfare of SC Community and more such schemes would be started very soon.

Bagha was in city to attend a function organised by Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad on the Martyrdom Day of Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev at SCD Government College, here today.

While speaking to media persons, Rajesh Bagha said that the SC students are availing of post-matric scholarship scheme in large numbers. He also warned the private colleges on unnecessarily harassing the scheduled caste students studying there. Bagha said that some complaints have come to his notice that some colleges of the state are unnecessarily harassing the SC students, which is totally an unfair and biased approach which would not be tolerated by the Punjab State Commission for Scheduled Castes.

He said that for making sure private colleges and universities don't charge hefty sums of money as fee, he has taken up this matter with the Chief Secretary few days back and has directed to look into the matter. He said that as the Punjab government pays for the fee for students studying in those institutions, he would not let public money to be overspent. He informed that under this scheme, around 110 students are studying MBBS in various medical colleges of the state.

While addressing the gathering, Rajesh Bagha also shared his life experiences with the students and urged them to adopt the ideology of great martyrs such as Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev and others if they want to achieve something in life. He also urged the students to stay away from evils such as drugs.

Prominent among those who attended the function included principal, SCD Government College Dr Dharam Singh Sandhu, District Welfare Officer, Ludhiana Rajinder Kumar, Dr Shiv Kumar Dogra, Panjab University senate member Dr Mukesh Arora, Saurabh Kumar, Deepak Atwal, besides several others.
