As many as 300 students and faculty members attended a one-day workshop on ‘health issues affecting youngsters’ to mark National Cancer Awareness Day at APG Shimla University on Monday.

Shimla, November 7, 2022: As many as 300 students and faculty members attended a one-day workshop on ‘health issues affecting youngsters’ to mark National Cancer Awareness Day at APG Shimla University on Monday.

The workshop was organized by Cardiomersion where its global chairman, Dr. Deepak Puri along with his team conducted four sessions and an interactive session. The workshop was inaugurated by Prof Ramesh Chauhan, VC APG University.

Addressing the workshop, Dr Puri said that India is a young Nation however there are several issues affecting Indian youth which are having a major impact on their Health and thereby reducing their efficiency and overall progress of our nation.

He also highlighted the reasons why Indians are being affected by Lifestyle diseases like heart attacks and cancers at a much younger age compared to the west.

Dr. Puri who is also cardio vascular director at Max Hospital, Mohali revealed that most Indian youngsters are following lifestyle which is adversely affecting their health. On one hand youngsters are following a completely sedentary lifestyle with prolonged sitting while on the other hand others have adopted the gyming culture aggressively without any assessment of their health status which is one of the reasons for the rising incidence of sudden heart attacks among youngsters.

He also spoke on the rising menace of stress and depression in youngsters which is affecting more than 25 % of the youngsters nowadays. There is a steep rise in suicidal rates among young population in the last decade. Emotional instability, academic pressures, inadequate job opportunities, financial problems and relationship stress is having a devastating effect on Indian youth today. This has increased their vulnerability to fall victim to addictions which is rapidly on the rise, he opined.
