Chandigarh, October 11, 2019: Three Days International Seminar on “Glorious Legacy of Guru Nanak in the Era of Globalization” was inaugurated here today to celebrate the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji.
Shri G.S.Gill, Former Additional Advocate General, Rajasthan in his inaugural address, elaborated upon the legacy of Guru Nanak’s teachings by explaining the important historical events of Guru’s life.
Prof Gurinder Singh Mann, Santa Barbara University, California, USA in his keynote address, highlighted the multidimensional perspectives of Guru Nanak’s philosophy historically and geographically by giving stress on Guru’s teachings of truth, equality of humans, peace, women rights and brotherhood.
Prof Shankar Ji Jha, Dean of University Instructions and Officiating Vice Chancellor, Panjab University, in his presidential remarks stressed on adopting Guru’s philosophy in daily lives.
Prof. Karamjeet Singh, Registrar, Panjab University, Chandigarh while introducing the seminar theme stressed on implementation of principles of Shri Guru Nanak. While quoting from Gurubani, he added that the message of controlling ego and ensuring welfare of all is clearly mentioned in Shri Guru Granth Sahib which should be followed by all. He elaborated the concept of “Kirat Karo, Nam Japo te Vand Chhako”.
Prof Jatinder Grover, Dean, Faculty of Education, welcomed the international and national delegates.
Second session was devoted to the theme “Spiritual Foundations of Humanism and Sikhism”. It was chaired by Dr. N.S. Virk, Deputy Chairman, Punjabi Sahitya Academy, Haryana who spoke on his experiences of adopting Guru Nanak’s messages of mental and spiritual realization. Prof Balkar Singh, Punjabi University, Patiala and Prof Yograj Angrish, Punjab University, Chandigarh were distinguished speakers on the dice. Papers were presented on the theme by the faculty and research scholars arrived from different parts of India. Second session’s proceedings were coordinated by Prof Uma Sethi, Panjab University, Chandigarh.
Third session was devoted to the theme “Guru Nanak’s Concept of Egalitarian Society”. It was chaired by Prof Sukhdev Singh Sirsa, Panjab University, Chandigarh who stressed on the social relevance of Guru Nanak’s teachings. Prof Sohinder Bir Singh, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar; Prof Paramvir Singh, Punjabi University, Patiala and Shri Kesar Singh Neer, Calgary, Canada were distinguished speakers on the dice. Papers were presented on the theme by the faculty and research scholars arrived from different parts of India. Third session’s proceedings were coordinated by Dr Amardeep Kaur, MCM DAV College, Chandigarh.
The above Seminar will hold discussions on various themes relating to Guru Nanak’s teachings and philosophy from 11-13 October, 2019 at Golden Jubilee Hall and ICSSR Hall of Panjab University, Chandigarh.
