3-Day Mayank Sharma Badminton Championship begins

Ferozepur, December 24, 2021: An annual feat Mayank Sharma Badminton Championship got underway at Dass and Brown World School here on December 24. As many as 550 players from different part of India are participating in this three- day tourney being held under the banner of Mayank Foundation. The event is dedicated in the memory of Ferozepur- based budding shuttler Mayank Sharma, who had lost his life in a road accident in 2017.
 
The players from different states namely Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, UP, Delhi, Mumbai are vying for positions in various catergories in the championship being held at Vishnu Bhagwan Rai Bahadur Auditorium of the school. Deputy Commissioner Davinder Singh and CEO of DCM Group and Anirudha Gupta, who is also President of the Foundation inaugurated the event. Gupta met all the players and highlighted the importance of sports in human life and wished the participants a bright future.
 
Secretary Rakesh Kumar said that for getting the championship done, the Director of Sports Department has provided Employers and Referees. He said that this championship is being organized in collaboration with District Badminton Association and is affiliated to Punjab Badminton Association. He said that the players are jubilant and full of enthusiasm to participate in the event,. .

Mayank's father Deepak Sharma told that this championship is being organized for the fourth time in the memory of Mayank. He said that with the aim of making Mayank's dream come true, important works are being done by his foundation in the field of education, sports, social service.

Deputy Commissioner Davinder Singh appreciated the work being done by the foundation and said that the way players from different states and big cities are coming and participating in the championship in the border district, it is a matter of pride for everyone including the district. He also administered the oath to the players to use their vote properly in the upcoming 2022 assembly elections. The DC said that elections are the biggest festival of democracy and every citizen should participate in it.
 
On this occasion, Chief Referee Sanjay Kataria, Ashwini Sharma, Principal Rajesh Mehta, Principal Sanjeev Tandon, Deepak Grover, Kamal Sharma, Arnish Monga, Vikas Gumbar, Charanjit Singh, Aksh Kumar, Navindra, Gursaheb Singh, Vipul Narang, Surbhi, Akshita, Arunav including others were present.
