‘24th Edition of Swar Udgam’, An Inter-School Hindustani Classical Vocal & Geet / Gazal Competition held at Mount Carmel School
Under the aegis of the Founders & Directors of Mount Carmel School, Chandigarh, Dr. Earnest Charles J. Samuel & Dr. Annie Charles Samuel, 24th Edition of ‘Swar Udgam’, an Inter-School Hindustani Classical Vocal & Geet / Gazal Competition was organized by Mount Carmel School, Chandigarh in the School premises.

Chandigarh July 21,2025: Under the aegis of the Founders & Directors of Mount Carmel School, Chandigarh, Dr. Earnest Charles J. Samuel & Dr. Annie Charles Samuel, 24th Edition of ‘Swar Udgam’, an Inter-School Hindustani Classical Vocal & Geet / Gazal Competition was organized by Mount Carmel School, Chandigarh in the School premises. The Classical Vocal Competition was conducted for students of classes VI to VIII and the Geet / Gazal Competition was conducted for students of classes IX & X.
Dr. Earnest Charles J. Samuel and Dr. Annie Charles Samuel, congratulated the winners and noted that the competition provided students with valuable stage experience, boosted their confidence, and created lasting memories. The Principal Dr. Parveena John Singh emphasized that Mount Carmel School is committed to offering a well-rounded education that fosters the artistic and creative talents of its students. The distinguished panel of judges’ expertise and feedback were invaluable, offering guidance and encouragement to the participants, aiding in their musical growth and development.
Students from various Schools of the Tricity and adjoining areas participated in this competition. The day’s programme started with a Welcome Speech byAvika, the Head Girl of the school. After this the students of the participating Schools presented their items for the competition. Yaman, ShudhSarang, Bhopali, Bhairav & Madhuvanti were some of the Ragas on which the participants sang. The participants impressed the audience with their soulful renditions and impeccable vocal skills.
The day featured a variety of performances, from classical vocal recitals to Geet/Gazals, demonstrating the versatility and depth of talent among the young participants. In the end the host School presented a song as a host presentation which was not part of the competition as per the policy of the School, followed by the felicitation of the Judges by the Principal of the School, Dr. Parveena John Singh.
Chahat Sharma and Navdeep Singh, accomplished Composer/Classical Singers, were the Judges for this Competition. Prizes to the winning Schools were given by Dr. Earnest Charles J. Samuel & Dr. Annie Charles Samuel, Founders & Directors along with Dr. Parveena John Singh, the Principal of the School.
This event highlighted the exceptional talents of students in classical vocal music and Geet/Gazal singing, enriching the school's vibrant cultural scene. The competition aimed to nurture and celebrate the rich heritage of classical music and Geet/Gazal singing among the students.
The programme concluded with a Vote of Thanks proposed by the Head Boy of the School followed by the National Anthem.
