240TH RAISING ANNIVERSARY OF 2 GUARDS

Jalandhar, December 21, 2018: Unflinching gallantry, tactical astuteness and complete commitment to the defence of the nation are the guiding principles that have won the battalion laurels after laurels and enabled them to render meritorious service to the country 2 GUARDS (1ST GRENADIERS), which has proved its mettle in various operations during war times, celebrated its 240th Raising Anniversary with ceremonial fervor at Beas from 20-21 Dec 2018.

To commemorate the occasion, a wreath was laid by the Colonel of the Regiment Lt Gen Surinder Singh who is also the Western Army Commander to pay homage to martyrs, who have fallen on the battlefield in service of the Nation. The Raising Anniversary was celebrated to commemorate the glorious history and honour the veterans.

The Battalion was raised on 22nd Nov 1778 by the then Bombay Presidency. Since then the unit has come a long way in setting superlative Military Standards in the Indian Army. The Battalion earned the unique distinction of being the only Battalion with three Victoria Cross (VCs) awardees serving together. During 1948 Indo - Pak operations (Op Eraze), the unit won laurels wherein it liberated Gurais valley from Pak raisers and earned 7 VrCs and its 13th Battle honour “Gurais”.

On this day, all ranks of the Battalion, rededicated themselves selflessly towards the service of the nation, befitting its motto of “Pahla Hamesha Pahla” (First always First).
