23rd Annual Conference of Punjab & Chandigarh Branch Indian Psychiatry Society (PUNCIPS 2014) on March 22

Ludhiana, March 21, 2014: In the Golden Jubilee celebration year of DMCH, Department of Psychiatry is organising 23rd Annual Conference of Punjab & Chandigarh Branch Indian Psychiatry Society (PUNCIPS 2014) on March 22 in Dumra Auditorium from 9 am onwards.

According to Organizing Chairman-Dr Ranjive Mahajan, the theme of the conference is “Future Directions in Psychiatry” During the conference, experts will be discussing on the theme of the conference like telepsychiatry, newer classifications and Mental health Care Bill.

Organising Secretary- Dr Navkiran S Mahajan said that Mental illness including depression, schizophrenia, addictions, anxiety and eating disorders constitute the major public health problem facing urban Indians. It is estimated that 1 out of 4 people are affected by mental illness in their lifetime but still they shrug for getting adequate treatment form qualified psychiatrist.

Dr Rupesh Chaudhary, Scientific Secretary said that it is important to appreciate and understand the current problems and significant limitations of the present approach to psychiatric therapy before considering new directions. The scientific sessions during the conference will definitely enrich the professional experience of participating delegates.
